What is Starts at Home Week?

Starts at Home Week is a yearly celebration of the crucial work our care workers provide. It acts as a reminder that a decent home is the first essential in turning people’s lives around and that those who support our vulnerable people in accessing it should receive the recognition they deserve. The following case study is an example of just that and we hope that it shines a light on the brave stories of the most vulnerable in our society.

Background

AC is a pregnant 45-year-old woman who had been a sex worker and drug user for numerous years.

Getting the support needed

AC moved into Hestia accommodation, having previously lived in unsanitary conditions. She has worked well with Hestia, with a multi-agency approach involved in this case. AC has kept her accommodation in good condition while paying her bills. AC has never sustained a property and is someone who has slipped through the net of many agencies.

Where are they now?

AC has many mountains to climb in the next few weeks, and we’re hoping that the professional relationships she’s built will sustain AC during an approaching traumatic period.
