Background

SJ is a care leaver and has historic issues with alcohol, drugs and sexual exploitation. She has had multiple tenancies and foster placements, with Hestia being her 14^th address.

SJ has a young son who was taken into care a month before she moved into the service – this was due to her being found drunk in the street whilst in charge of her son. She was deemed incapable and an immediate foster placement was found.

Moving into supported accommodation

Since moving into Hestia, SJ has worked hard to complete every intervention so that she can have her son returned back into her care. She is receiving counselling from MSP for historic sexual and domestic abuse, attending CGL for her dependency on cocaine and alcohol and has stopped risk-taking behaviours.

Where are they now?

Currently, SJ has been enjoying unsupervised contact with her son, who will soon begin to stay with her occasionally. We’re hopeful that he will return to his mother’s care very soon, and we’ll be supporting SJ to attend Teesside University for an access course.
