With the good weather now on its way, it’s now time to bring out the BBQ again!

Whilst this can be a fun, social gathering, BBQs can present a serious fire safety risk, so it’s important to follow some simple guidelines to ensure you remain safe.

Here are our top tips for having a BBQ that’s as safe as it is fun!

  1. Never use BBQs indoors or on a balcony
  2. Ensure the BBQ is in good working order
  3. Ensure the BBQ is on flat, level ground well away from outbuildings, bins, sheds, bushes, and trees
  4. The BBQ should be in open air, never underneath a marquee or covered area
  5. Never leave the BBQ unattended
  6. Keep the surrounding area of the BBQ clear
  7. Keep children and pets away from the BBQ
  8. Keep a bucket of sand or water nearby for emergencies
  9. Never wear loose clothing when cooking on a BBQ
  10. Ensure the BBQ is cool before moving it
  11. Never put hot ashes or coal in the bin
