As part of National Customer Service Week, today is Service with Respect Day.
The Institute of Customer Service launched its Service with Respect campaign in 2020 in response to increasing levels of abuse and hostility towards customer-facing workers.
Sadly, the issue remains. Research published by the Institute in June 2025 found that 43% of customer-facing workers had experienced customer hostility in the previous six months, an increase of almost 20% year on year. It also found that 26% of those experiencing abuse had taken time off work as a result.
That’s why North Star is proud to support the campaign. In 2025, our CEO James Walder joined more than 100 business leaders in signing the Institute of Customer Service’s open letter calling for greater legal protection for people working in public-facing roles. The campaign called for better protection of all public-facing workers from assault and hostility.
Our colleagues and contractors are here to listen, help and do their best to put things right. Please treat them with courtesy and respect, just as we expect them to treat you.
Thank you for helping us make every interaction a respectful one.
