Ending your tenancy

How to let us know when it's time to move on

We understand that circumstances change and you may decide to move on from your North Star home. When you’re ready to end your tenancy, there are a few important steps to follow.

1. Let us know

If you’ve decided to end your tenancy, please let us know by completing a Tenancy Termination Form.
You can:

  • Contact your Housing Officer, who will help you complete the form, or

  • Call us on 03000 11 00 11 and we’ll send the form to you.

2. Give 28 days’ notice

You must give us 28 days’ notice before your tenancy ends.

  • Rent will be charged during the notice period, even if you move out earlier.

  • If you leave your home and hand in your keys without giving notice, you’ll still be charged for the full 28 days.

3. Notice period dates

Tenancies run from Monday to Sunday.

  • If we receive your termination form on a Monday, your notice will start that day.

  • If we receive it on any other day, your notice period will start on the following Monday.

4. Before you leave

Please make sure your home is left clean, tidy, and empty.

  • Remove all personal belongings, furniture, and rubbish.

  • If any items are left behind, we may need to remove them, and the cost of this will be charged to you.

5. Returning your keys

Your Housing Officer will confirm how and where to return your keys. Please make sure they are handed in by 12 noon on the final Monday of your tenancy, unless otherwise agreed.
