We have two community hub buildings (Thornaby and Evenwood) from which community groups operate on an ongoing basis to support people in the area and deliver a wide range of activities, supported by core funding from North Star.
USP / IMPACT OF COMMUNITY HUB MODEL
The Community Hub, on Havelock Street, was first opened by North Star in XXXX. It has since become a central location of support and activity for the local community with arts and craft sessions, cooking classes, lunch clubs, training programmes, and more, delivered by groups including community food charity Sprouts (formerly Little Sprouts), Groundwork NE and Cumbria, and XXXXXXXXX.
With the help of over 20 contractors, partners, staff, and volunteers, the building was refurbished in 2019, including improvements to the building layout and updates to the facilities. Contractors provided staff for community labour days and donated building materials and free equipment, including a brand-new kitchen, as part of their social value commitments.
