We’re on site building 12 new low-carbon homes on Eldon Street in Darlington.
The land used to be home to a snooker club, car park and small community hall. It had been empty since August 2022 but work is now well underway to bring high-quality homes to the area.
These homes are being built with energy-saving materials and technology to help keep energy bills low for customers. They will have:
The homes will be some of the most energy-efficient in the county.
The development is supported by a £1,080,000 grant from Homes England and will include four three-bedroom homes and eight two-bedroom homes, all available for affordable rent.
Darlington MP Lola McEvoy visited the site and said:
“This is a gold star build by a gold star housing association. It is fulfilling an urgent need and it’s great to see it taking shape.”
“North Star has shown great leadership in securing the first tranche of Government funding for this type of development, and going above and beyond to make sure the latest energy-efficient technology is maximised.”
We’re also proud that our contractor, Aston Walker, is using as many local tradespeople as possible. Nathan Walker, director of Aston Walker, said:
“It’s fantastic to be working in collaboration with North Star on such a great regeneration project, using innovative technology to help towards achieving net zero.”
Our Chief Executive James Walder said:
“It is a key part of our strategy to develop net zero schemes, and we are delighted to get this opportunity to provide more energy-efficient homes in a part of Darlington where we have a proud track record of regeneration.”
We’re working hard to reduce our impact on the environment. Last year, we became a founder member of the Darlington Employers’ Environmental Partnership (DEEP), a group of local businesses sharing ideas to go greener together.
This development was brought to us by Incrementum UK and Northeast Property Investment. Other partners include HMH Architects, RNJ Construction Consultants, Portland Consulting Engineers, and NEECO Ltd, Durham.
