On Sunday 27th April, we teamed up with Groundwork North East and Cumbria and Evenwood Community Action to hold a community event at The Hub in Evenwood, County Durham.
The event was a fun and friendly way to chat with local people about what they want and need in their area. By talking and taking part in activities, Groundwork and our communities team gathered lots of useful ideas to help plan for the future.
Groundwork North East and Cumbria is a charity that focuses on environmental sustainability. Their mission is to 'Create Better Places; Improve People's Prospects; Promote Greener Lifestyles'.
They held their first event at The Hub in Evenwood in October 2024. Since then, they have run lunch clubs, toddler sessions, cooking workshops, and craft sessions. They also run cooking and craft sessions at The Community Hub on Havelock Street in Thornaby.
Our event brought together people of all ages for a day full of fun, food, and building connections. Children enjoyed crafting, face painting, balloon art, and bubbles, and there were plenty of burgers, hot dogs, pies, and cakes to go around.
Thanks to lots of kind donations, there was also a raffle with lots of great prizes. The money raised will help community group Evenwood Community Action to keep running coffee mornings and other events at The Hub.
