Inclusive Recruitment

We take positive action to help ensure that people from underrepresented groups are given equal opportunities. We intend to increase the number of staff who describe themselves as ethnically diverse and the number of staff who have a disability. North Star is a member of the Disability Confident scheme. This means that we guarantee an interview for any person declaring a disability who meets the essential job criteria. We also guarantee an interview for any person from an ethnic minority background who meets the essential job criteria. We are part of Business in the Community’s (BITC) Opening Doors campaign, helping us to ensure our recruitment practices are as inclusive and accessible as possible.

These perks are also available to North Star tenants, helping extend the benefit across our wider communities.

Paid Volunteering Hours

We actively encourage you to make a difference - not just at work but in your wider community, too. Every full-time staff member gets a week's worth of paid volunteering hours each year, giving you the time and space to support the causes that matter most to you.

Work-Life Balance

Annual leave entitlement starts at 25 days plus bank holidays and three Christmas days off (role dependent), increasing to 28 days after three years.

Work is something you do, not somewhere you go, and we understand that life doesn’t stop when the working day starts. That’s why we offer hybrid and flexible working options, depending on your role, to help you achieve a balance that works for you. Our enhanced family leave policies ensure that when life changes, we’re here to support you through it.

Learning & Development

Regular development conversations with your manager are a key part of working at North Star. If there are new skills you’d like to build or qualifications you’re keen to pursue, you’ll have the chance to explore these and put plans in place to help you reach your career goals.

We also advertise all vacancies internally first because we believe in growing our own talent. Whether you're looking to take on a new challenge, move into a different area of the organisation, or take your first step into leadership, you’ll be supported to develop and progress.
