North Star are committed to supporting people experiencing domestic abuse. To show our commitment we have recently signed up to the Chartered Institute of Housing make a stand pledge.

This demonstrates our commitment to both our customers and employees who may experience domestic abuse.

The pledge sets out four commitments which North Star have fulfilled.

The Scale of the issue

Reported instances of Domestic abuse are on the increase.

  • One in 4 women and one in 6 men suffer from domestic abuse in their lifetime
  • An estimated 1.9 million adults aged between 16-59 experienced domestic abuse in the last year
  • Domestic abuse takes place at all levels of society regardless of gender, social class, race, religion, sexuality or disability
  • 2 women are killed each week by a current or former partner
  • 62% of children exposed to domestic abuse are directly harmed
