Last week, Kimberley Batey, a resident of Butterknowle, contacted North Star to see if we could assist in any emergency funding in order to provide wellness packs to the old and vulnerable members of the community in Butterknowle, where local amenities are scarce.
The communities team worked with Kimberley to discuss emergency funding, ways to support and methods to purchase goods. The team then contacted local partners to find out what provisions were in place and to consider distribution methods.
The proposal was agreed with funding assigned to help support vulnerable residents that had been identified in the area both by Kimberley, the Welfare Benefits Officers and housing officers – owing that a number of residents in Butterknowle are North Star tenants.
Accompanying the wellness bags were details for the Hub in Barnard Castle which are also operating a number of food donations schemes as well as details of services that North Star are able to offer, to support residents.
